CHALLENGE: Develop the visual identity and promotional materials for a contemporary dance performance entitled Transformation by Maxime Beauregard. As a transgender non-binary autistic person, the show emerged from a year-long exploration documenting the impact of hormonal replacement therapy on their dance practice. It is a creative access performance specifically tailored for the Mad, Deaf, neurodivergent, Disability, and non-cisgender communities.
SOLUTION: An identity centered in accessibility through colourblocking and the strategic use of negative space to form the shape of a T. Representing both the abbreviation for testosterone hormone replacement and the prominent letter in the show's title, this T form also effectively creates two distinct sides representing the "before" and "after" phases of Max's hormone replacement therapy. With colour schemes of both the non-binary and transgender flags, and typographic treatment that mimics the performance’s movement, the visual identity becomes a flexible container for Maxime’s work.
